Sharon Norton
Hello, my name is Sharon Norton, and I am a fine art artist based in Sacramento, California. I specialize in oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings.
My passion for art started as a young child drawing and painting to my first formal art class in middle school. Four years later while in high school, I had the pleasure of participating in a student exhibition at the Crocker Art Museum. Later in high school, I attended the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) Visual Arts Program. As a college student, I studied under the iconic Sacramento based artist and professor Gary Pruner with classes in watercolor and oil painting. I have a AS Degree in Multimedia. With this I have had the opportunity to use my love of creativity in the modern world of marketing.
Currently, I enjoy painting with oil and acrylic on canvas and wood panels. My inspiration comes from images all over Sacramento. From a bike ride looking at landscapes gleaming in the sun to a walk along the Sacramento River. I love to paint sunlight. Sunlight hitting plants, petals, animals, and faces alike. Over the years, my work has ranged from commissioned portrait paintings of friends, family and pets to California’s landscapes and flowers. After a year of health issues, I knew I needed to focus back on my true passion of painting because it helps me feel my best.

About my traffic utility box design:
“True Wealth”
Original Medium: Oil and acrylic on wood panels
Flowers can brighten anyone’s day right! Well, that is just what I wanted to do with this big grey utility box. I choose large bold blossoms painted in bright colors to catch your attention. I hope everyone passing by will stop and smell the roses (or at least take a photo with them).
The 9th & J Street box is located on the corner of the Cesar Chavez Park. Because of the location I was also inspired to do something in honor of Cesar Chavez himself. This bouquet of poppies, roses, peonies, and dahlias serve as a memorial to him like flowers on a grave. Along with the flowers I included one of my favorite quotes by Cesar...
“True wealth is not measured in money or status or power. It is measured in the legacy we leave behind for those we love and those we inspire.” – Cesar Chavez
He has some great motivational quotes; it was hard to pick just one. I think this quote speaks to so many of us in this day-in-age.
May we all find “True Wealth” and happiness in our lifetimes.
About my traffic utility box design:
“Wishful Thinking”
Original Medium: Oil and Acrylic on Canvas
In this time of Covid, I believe we have all wished for a brighter future now more than ever.
As I contemplated what that would look like depicted as a painting, I thought of the iconic blowing a wish with a dandelion and watching the seeds float into the air. It’s a sweet childhood memory and reminds me of the delightfully wishful thinking we have as children.
My muse is my dear Niece, and young mother, Moni with her daughter Iyla. As a mother myself, I have wished many times for a bright future for my child and all our youth. This pandemic has reminded us how difficult and dark times can get. May we all find something each day to make us smile and wish.
Every dream fulfilled, begins with a simple wish. – Anonymous
