Nicole Alvarez
Hello, my name is Nicole Alvarez and I am a visual artist based in Sacramento, CA.
My art focuses on the use of bright and bold colors. I gravitate towards abstract art and creating a sense of playfulness within my pieces. My creative work primarily includes painting, drawing, and paper crafting. I believe working in multi-disciplinary practices helps to influence my work in different ways, and is important to my free-flowing style. I strive to produce pieces that bring a positive energy that can be seen through my polychromatic palette.
I find it most rewarding blending art and the community together, and have worked towards this over the last decade. I have experience with multiple mural programs such as PowWow Long Beach and Wide Open Walls as an Artist Assistant. However, most of my love for community art began with my position at the City of Long Beach as a Mural Conservationist. Most currently, I have worked with Downtown Sacramento Partnership to provide temporary advertisement murals as well as crafting workshops with kids. I also sell handmade crafted cards through several small businesses in Sacramento.

About my traffic utility box design:
“Painting Party”
Original work medium: Oil & Acrylic
My art on 7th& K is an extension of my studio work, implementing a bright and bold palette. I wanted to bring a variety of color, texture, and movement to the energy of K street. With this piece, I’ve allowed the viewer a “behind the scenes look” in order to appreciate some of the tools and materials needed to create these paintings. Over the past year, many of the people around me and beyond have been exploring their creative sides, and may have even experimented with similar materials. The importance of art in our communities and our world cannot be overstated. I hope my piece is both playful and inspiring for people to continue their artistic journeys and a reminder to just have fun!
