Judy Knott

Hello. My name is Judy Knott and I’m a working artist living in Galt, California.

My art transitions between representational and abstract art and between the mediums of acrylic and oils. This variety allows me to create a range of work that is pleasing to a broad diversity of interests. When painting my more abstract compositions I have a freeform way of layering color, paper and line. The process of layering and removing and layering again is one that fascinates and helps to create a history for my pieces.

My artwork has been called painterly, inventive, fun and colorful, with a little wit thrown in on the side. I want to have fun creating my art and for those who see it to feel a sense of joy and connection. I hope viewers will do the same thing I do when I finish a painting—that is to smile.

About my traffic utility box design:

“Untitled“

Original Medium:

The piece I created for the utility box (located at the Northeast corner of 6th & J Streets) is an abstracted portrayal of trees using acrylics and collage. The inspiration for the design was trees, or more specifically the need for more trees. Most of the collage papers were created and painted by me and placed to make the most of color and pattern. There were only a couple of trees in the area among all the grey, square stark buildings.

I felt that there needed to be more color; more fun and so the trees contain as swing and bird house to let people imagine that trees can be used for other enjoyable things and not just to be cut down to make room for buildings. I wanted children who walked by with their parents to fantasize about playing among these trees
