John Krempel
Hello my name is John Krempel and I’m from live and work in Sacramento, CA.
John Titus Krempel is an award winning figure, impressionist, & abstract expressionist painter working in mixed media. John has honed his intellectual insight into the three dimensional world through his paintings that express his view of the surrounding world from a visual, tactile, and psychological perspective. Mr. Krempel has made his home in Ohio, Kentucky, New York City, San Francisco, and now lives in Sacramento, California.
John was greatly influenced by the abstract expressionist movement of San Francisco from the mid-twentieth century. In his paintings one can often see references to the built urban environment and elements that make the world an ever evolving organism. Mr. Krempel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Akron, and a Master of Arts from the University of Cincinnati.
Mr. Krempel’s art was featured on several episodes of Shasta Smith’s design show “Red Hot Design” by Cineflix and was a featured artist on “Rob On The Road’s Amazing Artists Series” and appeared on PBS stations nationwide. About my traffic utility box design:
“City Vibe”
Original Medium: Oil paint
The utility box I was assigned is at eighth and J Streets in downtown Sacramento. I had made several trips to that intersection, feeling the vibe, observing the buildings. On one corner a very modern and contemporary apartment building, on the other corner a parking garage with construction going on for new retail. I felt the vibe of the intersection, a bustling downtown intersection. My inspiration from this area help me come up with the idea to paint an abstract, stylized city scene, taking in the colors, the lack of colors, the architectural style, and the vibe of the area.
