Amber Rankin

Hello, my name is Amber Rankin and I am based in midtown Sacramento.

I’m a 2D animator, motion designer, and illustrator based in Midtown Sacramento. I specialize in 2D frame-by-frame character driven animation and character illustration.

As a 2D animator and illustrator, no matter what medium I’m working in — my main focus is in developing characters and scenes that the audience can identify with and see themselves in.

I want the viewers of my work to feel joy and a connection to the characters or remind them of a moment or experience that they’ve had. Connection, everyday life, and joy are themes that often show up in my work.

About my traffic utility box design:

“”

Original Medium: Acrylic on paper

After over a year spent inside I was craving adventure through my illustration work. My design features women and girls enjoying the outdoors. I reflected on how, in the past year, one of the only safe ways to relax was to get outside yet the outdoors aren’t always a place where women and girls feel comfortable alone and I wanted to depict a world where they could confidently enjoy nature and embrace adventure outside. The landscape is inspired by the landscape surrounding the Sacramento region and features all women and girls enjoying the outdoors, taking risks and being together. The image wraps continuously around the box as a single image with each panel featuring a unique scene and is intended to be both eye-catching to drivers and pedestrians and encourage pedestrians to walk around the box to take in the whole story and details of each panel. This image is meant to invoke fond memories of time spent outdoors with friends and inspire viewers to get outside and explore.
