Lucy Giles

My name is Lucy Giles and I am a painter, illustrator, visual designer, musician, and writer from Sacramento, CA.

I am driven to create artwork to capture the psychological state, emotion, and mood of “the moment.” My work tends to gravitate towards portraiture because the human expression carries an extraordinary amount of sentiment and tenderness.  I strive to portray romanticized notions of the past through the use of vintage iconography.  I am highly influenced by life and pop culture throughout the 20th century, but am particularly keen on the 1950s and 1960s.  I add my unique touch and personality to vintage themes through the use of bright colors.  Heavily inspired by early Technicolor and colorized imagery, my goal is to take the viewer out of the ordinary world and place them into a vivacious, fictive world.

About my traffic utility box design:

“Dolly Parton x Yeehaw Dolly”

Original Medium: Digital painting

COVID 19 has impacted society in every way, shape, and form. Through all the uncertainty and hardship, Dolly Parton has brought us positivity and joy.  She has served the American people and the world by donating 1 million dollars to COVID 19 vaccine research.  I wanted to honor and acknowledge Dolly by putting her portrait up on my box for all of Sacramento to see and celebrate!
