Erik Hosino was born in Spokane, Washington in 1980. After a number of career-related moves, Erik’s family relocated when he was an infant to Sacramento-a place that would become “home”. Erik began creating art at a young age and never stopped. Over the years he has been recognized for different art awards, including a Sacramento Gold Addy  and a Regional (West Coast) Silver Addy. In his spare time, he paints for local shows and partakes in local events including Sacramento’s annual “Chalk It Up” festival.

Artist Statement

Art is my life.

When I was a small child, my mother would often come home from her job at DMV with reams of computer paper—the perforated kind with holes running down the sides. At a very young age, I made it my life’s sole mission to unremittingly fill every square inch of that paper with crayon and marker. Born unto those pages were countless superheoes, comics and theme park master plans.

Not a lot has changed over the years. I am now, by day, a graphic designer. It’s the perfect fit for me because I love creating as much as I love problem-solving. In the evenings, I moonlight a bit as an illustrator. The designer in me informs the illustrator and vice-versa. I work in several mediums including ink, watercolor, acrylic and digital. Because I approach illustration with the same pragmatism I do design, my medium is often dictated by the subject matter, tone and canvas.

As a new dad, I look forward to the challenges of parenting as well as the many ways that fatherhood will undoubtedly sculpt me as an artist and as a person.
